The Art & Science of Plant Propagation

A 4-Week Hands-On Course in Growing, Observing & Understanding Tropical Plants.

Learn exactly how to propagate, root, and nurture plants through a fun, hands-on approach that combines plant science, practical techniques, and observation.

By the end of four weeks, you won’t just leave with new plants, you’ll leave with the skills, confidence, and knowledge to help them thrive for years to come.

What You'll Learn

Format: 4 weeks · 1 hour per week (In-person)
Level: Beginner-friendly · No prior experience required
Includes: All materials + multiple propagated plants to take home

This immersive beginner-friendly 4-week series is designed for plant lovers who want to move beyond “trying their luck” with cuttings. Each week builds on the last, giving you the opportunity to witness real growth from fresh cuttings to rooted, potted plants, while learning the science behind plant reproduction.

You’ll gain not only hands-on skills, but also a deeper understanding of how plants grow, how to troubleshoot problems, and how to care for them intentionally.

Week 01

The Foundation:

Choose Your Plant & Make Your First Cuttings

In your first week, you’ll select a plant from a curated set of options, such as Pothos, Philodendron, Tradescantia, or similar plant, which you will nurture throughout the course. We begin by exploring plant anatomy, nodes, internodes, aerial roots, and callus formation, so we understand the science behind propagation.

You will then create your first cuttings, we will learn about different methods of propagation, the techniques, while learning proper placement, lighting, and humidity conditions.

Root Development & Troubleshooting

Week two focuses on root growth and problem-solving. We’ll review cuttings’ progress and learn to interpret what’s happening below the surface, including callus formation and early root development. We’ll also explore common challenges, such as rot, stalled growth, or weak stems, and learn how to adjust light, water, and airflow to optimize results.

You may also try a second propagation technique with a new cutting, reinforcing our skills and deepening our understanding. By the end of the session, you’ll gain confidence in identifying healthy growth and troubleshooting minor setbacks.

Week 02

Growth Support & Preparing for Potting

In week three, the focus shifts to nurturing cuttings as they prepare for potting. You will learn to recognize when roots are ready for soil and how to reduce transplant shock. The session covers soil types, drainage, pot sizes, and light requirements to support long-term plant health. We’ll inspect our cuttings, preparing them for the final potting session, while learning advanced care tips, including watering strategies, fertilization, and pruning.

By the end of the class, you’ll have the knowledge and skills needed to transition your cuttings from propagation to independent, thriving plants.

Week 03

Potting, Sharing & Stewardship

The final week is dedicated to potting and celebrating progress. You’ll pot one or two of your rooted cuttings using proper techniques, learning about soil compaction, pot sizing, watering, and light placement. The session also covers post-potting care and sustainable propagation strategies, such as division, pruning, and gifting cuttings. You’ll reflect on your growth over the four weeks, share your successes, and take home a guide with care instructions, journaling prompts, and propagation tips. By the end of the course, everyone leaves with multiple thriving plants, confidence in their propagation skills, and the knowledge to continue growing and multiplying plants sustainably at home.
